Importance of outdoors games played can never be neglected. Playground games not only provide entertainment to kids but also act as a source of exercise that keeps them healthy. Playground games are of many types and have different names in different regions. Among the oldest game is the tag. Hide and seek is also another example of outdoor playground game. Physical contact games include buck buck. These games are no more played in schools. Some ball games like football and softball. Skipping games involve jumping over a rope. Some word games are also played in playgrounds. Racings of different types like hopping jumping and running. Few performing games are also famous among kids in which they have to act out roles, like doctor, nurse and robber cop.
The most famous game is Simon Says in which one person is selected as Simon who gives command for some actions like ‘brush your teeth’ if the Simon commands like this “Simon Says, brush your teeth then everyone must have to follow him. The person who follows on simply saying ‘brush your teeth’ is thrown out of the game. Some other games include, Doggy where is your bone? Four Square and Chasing Games.
Playground games in England are not very different from other regions. Skipping, French skipping, Jacks or Five Stones, Red Letter, Please Mr. Crocodile, Queenie Queenie and adventure playground. Skipping is of many types like Double Dutch, Pretzel, Stalk, Can-Can and Double Skipping.
Playground games for large groups are more fun as it increases the thrill and competition. You can have blowing bubble games with a group of children. Murder in the dark can be played with a group of five or more children. Musical chairs is one of the oldest game in which chairs are lined up in a row in alternating directions there should be one chair less than the number of participants. A clap or beat of drum or any other music is played and the children walk around the chairs, when the music stops all try to sit down. Anyone who does not get a place to sit is out of the game now. Keep on removing the chair until only one child is left. Sack hop is another good idea for a group of children. Playgrounds are painted for different games like hopscotch require numbers.
Playground game rules are meant in order to maintain a discipline among the participants. Rules prevent from quarrels and disagreements and decrease the margin of cheating.
